Movement goals and feedback and feedforward control mechanisms in speech production.

چکیده
Studies of speech motor control are described that support a theoretical framework in which fundamental control variables for phonemic movements are multi-dimensional regions in auditory and somatosensory spaces. Auditory feedback is used to acquire and maintain auditory goals and in the development and function of feedback and feedforward control mechanisms. Several lines of evidence support the idea that speakers with more acute sensory discrimination acquire more distinct goal regions and therefore produce speech sounds with greater contrast. Feedback modification findings indicate that fluently produced sound sequences are encoded as feedforward commands, and feedback control serves to correct mismatches between expected and produced sensory consequences.

Sensorimotor control of speech production: models and data
A theoretical, model-based overview of speech production is described in which the goals of phonemic speech movements are in auditory and somatosensory domains and the movements are controlled by a combination of feedback and feedforward mechanisms. Examples of experimental results are presented that provide support for the overview.
متن کاملOverreliance on auditory feedback may lead to sound/syllable repetitions: simulations of stuttering and fluency-inducing conditions with a neural model of speech production.
UNLABELLED This paper investigates the hypothesis that stuttering may result in part from impaired readout of feedforward control of speech, which forces persons who stutter (PWS) to produce speech with a motor strategy that is weighted too much toward auditory feedback control. Over-reliance on feedback control leads to production errors which if they grow large enough, can cause the motor sys...
متن کاملFeedforward and Feedback Function of Selected Lower Limb Muscles Following Plyometric Exercises and Cryotherapy
Purpose: Despite the widespread use of cryotherapy in sports fields there is a lack of certain evidence of its impact of it on muscle activation especially following fatigue-induced exercise. This study aimed to assess the impact of cryotherapy alone and after plyometric exercises on knee muscle activation during the drop jump task. Method: 35 active female subjects (mean age of 22.74±2.10, m...
متن کاملEstimating feedforward vs. feedback control of speech production through kinematic analyses of unperturbed articulatory movements
To estimate the contributions of feedforward vs. feedback control systems in speech articulation, we analyzed the correspondence between initial and final kinematics in unperturbed tongue and jaw movements for consonant-vowel (CV) and vowel-consonant (VC) syllables. If movement extents and endpoints are highly predictable from early kinematic information, then the movements were most likely com...
متن کاملAtypical delayed auditory feedback effect and Lombard effect on speech production in high-functioning adults with autism spectrum disorder
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) show impaired social interaction and communication, which may be related to their difficulties in speech production. To investigate the mechanisms of atypical speech production in this population, we examined feedback control by delaying the auditory feedback of their own speech, which degraded speech fluency. We also examined feedforward control ...
